As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Italy (X units) was the main exporter of plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles, comprising 63% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by France (5.6%) and Germany (5.1%). Spain (X units), Denmark (X units), Hungary (X units) and Belgium (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Italy increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Italy (+17 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.2 p.p.) and Spain (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-5.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest spectacle plastic frame supplier in the European Union, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy stood at +4.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+9.5% per year) and Spain (+11.3% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
