In value terms, hydraulic lime exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. In terms of the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +349.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, declining by -11.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hydraulic lime increased by 20% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 90%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydraulic lime imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main importer of hydraulic lime, committing 48% of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by France (7%). Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands (+47 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Slovenia, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Austria and Italy saw its share reduced by -3.3%, -6.1%, -7.1%, -9%, -11.1% and -23.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hydraulic lime in the European Union, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands amounted to +65.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+32.0% per year) and France (+14.5% per year).

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year.
