Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, dolomite exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +93.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Slovakia was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 69% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (7.7%). Poland (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from Slovakia stood at +9.9%. At the same time, Belarus (+35.5%) and Poland (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +35.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+15 p.p.) and Slovakia (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland and Russia saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -13.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 15% share.

In Slovakia, dolomite exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+5.0% per year) and Russia (-4.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 8.2%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the largest importers of chalk and dolomite in 2021, accounting for approx. 37% and 32% of total imports, respectively.
