Exports from Hungary

Dolomite exports from Hungary reduced remarkably to X tons in 2021, declining by -64.3% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 9.5%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dolomite exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and North Macedonia (X tons) were the main destinations of dolomite exports from Hungary, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Serbia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +86.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X), North Macedonia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for dolomite exported from Hungary worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Croatia, with a CAGR of +89.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average dolomite export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+29.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

In 2021, the amount of chalk and dolomite imported into Hungary surged to X tons, jumping by 41% on the year before. Overall, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.0% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dolomite imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +144.5% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Slovenia (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of dolomite imports to Hungary, together comprising 87% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +79.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X), Slovenia ($X) and Austria ($X) were the largest dolomite suppliers to Hungary, with a combined 76% share of total imports.
