The Czech roasted coffee market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of roasted coffee decreased by -16.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 89%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, roasted coffee exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 111% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
France (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of roasted coffee exports from the Czech Republic, together accounting for 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Poland, Austria and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +68.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest markets for roasted coffee exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, together comprising 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Poland, Austria and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 16%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +71.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average roasted coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Roasted Coffee Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
For the third consecutive year, the Czech Republic recorded decline in supplies from abroad of roasted coffee, which decreased by -5.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, roasted coffee imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of roasted coffee imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 79% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Austria, France, Slovakia and the UK, which together accounted for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +33.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted coffee to the Czech Republic, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +16.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+3.1% per year) and Italy (+7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average roasted coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
