Pepper Market Size in Colombia

The revenue of the pepper market in Colombia amounted to $X in 2018, picking up by X% against the previous year. Jamaica (X tonnes) was the main destination for pepper exports from Colombia, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pepper exports to Jamaica exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Trinidad and Tobago (X kg), fivefold.

In 2018, the average pepper export price amounted to $X per tonne, going up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the pepper export price continues to indicate a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices for pepper reached their peak figure in 2018 and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Jamaica amounted to $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Trinidad and Tobago.

Imports into Colombia

In 2018, the amount of pepper imported into Colombia totaled X tonnes, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total imports indicated modest growth from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, pepper imports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. The U.S., Venezuela, Brazil and Viet Nam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the U.S., while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Spain ($X) and Mexico ($X) were the largest pepper suppliers to Colombia, with a combined X% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Viet Nam ($X per tonne), while the price for Ecuador ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
