Canada (X tons) was the main destination for piper pepper exports from the United States, accounting for a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, piper pepper exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Canada was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-0.1% per year) and South Korea (+7.1% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for piper pepper exports from the United States, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+2.6% per year) and Costa Rica (+35.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average piper pepper export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bahamas ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Costa Rica (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of piper pepper decreased by -6.9% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, piper pepper imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) constituted the largest piper pepper supplier to the United States, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, piper pepper imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), ninefold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam totaled +18.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-12.4% per year) and Brazil (-3.2% per year).
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of piper pepper to the United States, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam stood at +12.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-15.1% per year) and India (-8.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average piper pepper import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 31% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
