In 2021, the Chilean slaked lime market increased by 35% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, consumption continues to indicate significant growth. In 2021, supplies from abroad of slaked lime increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 1,074% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, slaked lime imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 1,730%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Argentina (X tons) constituted the largest slaked lime supplier to Chile, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, slaked lime imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), eightfold. Mexico (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.
