After two years of decline, overseas purchases of electronic calculators and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions increased by 12% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, calculator imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Germany (X units) constituted the largest supplier of calculator to Austria, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, calculator imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), ninefold. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
