Nuts Market Size in Australia

In 2020, the Australian nuts market increased by X% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nuts production reduced to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, production increased by +X% against 2017 indices. Exports from Australia

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of nuts (prepared or preserved) were exported from Australia; waning by -X% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, nuts exports fell remarkably to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

New Zealand (X tonnes) was the main destination for nuts exports from Australia, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, nuts exports to New Zealand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Africa (X tonnes), twofold. China (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to New Zealand was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (+X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for nuts exported from Australia were New Zealand ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Japan (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average nuts export price amounted to $X per tonne, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the U.S., while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Australia

Nuts imports into Australia rose markedly to X tonnes in 2020, surging by X% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, nuts imports reached $X in 2020. In general, imports recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The U.S. (X tonnes), China (X tonnes) and Indonesia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of nuts imports to Australia, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Viet Nam, Turkey, Lebanon and Canada, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Canada (+X% per year), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest nuts suppliers to Australia were the U.S. ($X), Viet Nam ($X) and China ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.
