Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer in Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. By contrast, Sri Lanka (-X%), Thailand (-X%), South Korea (-X%), Turkey (-X%), Japan (-X%), China (-X%) and China, Hong Kong SAR (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bangladesh (+X p.p.), Viet Nam (+X p.p.), Cambodia (+X p.p.), Indonesia (+X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2007-2018, the share of Turkey (-X p.p.), China (-X p.p.) and China, Hong Kong SAR (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cotton fabric importing markets in Asia were Bangladesh ($X), Viet Nam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Hong Kong SAR, China, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further X the main importing countries, Cambodia recorded the highest growth rate of imports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The cotton fabric import price in Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2018, coming down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the cotton fabric import price continues to indicate a slight drop. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per square meter), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
