The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene binder imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the three major importers of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines, namely Japan, Australia and Myanmar, represented more than half of total import. New Zealand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.5% share, followed by Cambodia (6%). Malaysia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest polyethylene binder importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), Australia ($X) and Myanmar ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +55.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 7.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
