The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the main exporter of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles in Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons), together making up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Morocco (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles. At the same time, Mauritius (X%) and Morocco (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Zambia (X%), Egypt (X%) and Mozambique (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (X p.p.) and Morocco (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt and Mozambique saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest refractory bricks, blocks and tiles supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (X% per year) and Zambia (X% per year).

In 2023, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports saw a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
