The African pyrites market reached $X in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. The total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. Production By Country in Africa
Cote d'Ivoire (X tonnes) remains the largest pyrites producing country in Africa, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, pyrites production in Cote d'Ivoire exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Botswana (X tonnes), threefold.
In Cote d'Ivoire, pyrites production expanded at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012-2021.
Pyrites Exports
Exports in Africa
In 2021, exports of pyrites in Africa reduced rapidly to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% against 2020. In general, exports recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pyrites exports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Morocco (X tonnes) and South Africa (X tonnes) were the major exporters of pyrites in 2021, finishing at near X% and X% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Madagascar (X tonnes), Botswana (X tonnes) and Uganda (X tonnes), together achieving a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tanzania (X tonnes) and Egypt (X tonnes) - each reached a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Egypt (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Tanzania ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Madagascar, Botswana, Uganda and Egypt, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per tonne), while Madagascar ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Pyrites Imports
Imports in Africa
For the fourth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in overseas purchases of pyrites, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2021. Overall, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, pyrites imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
South Africa (X tonnes) and Namibia (X tonnes) were the key importers of pyrites in 2021, reaching near X% and X% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Algeria (X tonnes), constituting a X% share of total imports. Morocco (X tonnes), Egypt (X tonnes), Niger (X tonnes) and Tunisia (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per tonne in 2021, falling by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per tonne), while Niger ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
