In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of pyrites, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, pyrites exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a abrupt decrease. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the three major exporters of pyrites, namely Romania, Italy and Finland, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Germany (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Italy (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Finland ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for X% of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per tonne in 2021, jumping by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a mild reduction. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while Romania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, overseas purchases of pyrites increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the fourth year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pyrites imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Italy (X tonnes) represented the main importer of pyrites, generating X% of total imports. Spain (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Germany (X%). The following importers - Denmark (X tonnes), Slovenia (X tonnes) and Austria (X tonnes) - each resulted at a X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pyrites imports into Italy stood at +X%. At the same time, Denmark (+X%), Spain (+X%) and Slovenia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Austria (-X%) and Germany (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Italy, Spain, Denmark and Slovenia increased by +X, +X, +X and +X percentage points, respectively. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per tonne), while Denmark ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
