Walnut Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average walnut export price amounted to $1,365 per ton, falling by -47% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 47% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,014 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for France.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Germany amounted to +24.8% per year.
Walnut Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average walnut import price amounted to $1,835 per ton, waning by -16.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,289 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($3,150 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($1,469 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Walnut Exports in Serbia
In 2022, the amount of walnuts exported from Serbia soared to 400 kg, with an increase of 17% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 2.1 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, walnut exports dropped rapidly to $546 in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a sharp downturn. The smallest decline of -4.8% was in 2020.

Walnut Imports in Serbia
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of walnuts, when their volume decreased by -6.3% to 19 tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2020 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 20 tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, walnut imports contracted rapidly to $34K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2020 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the last two years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $44K, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
