Virgin Olive Oil Price in Argentina (FOB) - 2022

The average virgin olive oil export price stood at $3,988 per ton in 2022, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $4,093 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Brazil ($4,616 per ton) and the United States ($3,564 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($3,183 per ton) and Chile ($3,263 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Virgin Olive Oil Price in Argentina (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average virgin olive oil import price amounted to $4,058 per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 40% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,040 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,363 per ton), while the price for Spain ($3,912 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Virgin Olive Oil Exports in Argentina

In 2022, approx. 25K tons of virgin olive oil were exported from Argentina; with an increase of 2% on the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, virgin olive oil exports rose markedly to $99M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Virgin Olive Oil Imports in Argentina

For the fourth consecutive year, Argentina recorded growth in purchases abroad of virgin olive oil, which increased by 136% to 3.4K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 164% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, virgin olive oil imports surged to $14M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
