Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average temporarily preserved vegetable export price amounted to $3,020 per ton, shrinking by -10.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 136%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,371 per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($7,501 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($1,253 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+51.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average temporarily preserved vegetable import price amounted to $1,642 per ton, falling by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,529 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,501 per ton), while the price for China ($164 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Exports in South Africa
For the third year in a row, South Africa recorded decline in overseas shipments of vegetables (temporarily preserved), which decreased by -19.5% to 551 tons in 2022. In general, exports faced a precipitous decrease.
In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable exports fell sharply to $1.7M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 35%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.3M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
