Taro (Cocoyam) Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022

The average taro (cocoyam) import price stood at $2,643 per ton in September 2022, growing by 9.2% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated buoyant growth from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, taro (cocoyam) import price increased by +13.1% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,877 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($2,955 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($1,119 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Taro (Cocoyam) Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average taro (cocoyam) export price amounted to $3,514 per ton, with an increase of 32% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Timor-Leste ($7,580 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,248 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Taro (Cocoyam) Imports in Singapore

In 2022, overseas purchases of taro decreased by -10.4% to 2.2K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 5.8%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of (cocoyam) imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, taro (cocoyam) imports reached $4.1M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
