Sugar Crop Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar crop import price amounted to $54 per ton, shrinking by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $69 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($57 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic amounted to $52 per ton.

The average sugar crop export price stood at $902 per ton in 2022, rising by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed prominent growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,238 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($182 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+17.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Crop Imports in China
In 2022, the amount of sugar crops imported into China surged to 2.4M tons, jumping by 23% against the previous year. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three-year period.
