Sugar Crop Price in Chile (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar crop import price amounted to $1,892 per ton, dropping by -19.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,346 per ton, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Spain.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Spain amounted to +3.3% per year.
Sugar Crop Price in Chile (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar crop export price stood at $1,989 per ton in 2022, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 159%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $7,466 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($2,061 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($878 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Peru (-2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Sugar Crop Imports in Chile
In 2022, overseas purchases of sugar crops increased by 169% to 60 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decline.
In value terms, sugar crop imports surged to $114K in 2022. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of sugar crops, when their volume decreased by -92.8% to 4.3 tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 1,352%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 60 tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, sugar crop exports reduced dramatically to $8.6K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 1,302%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $104K, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
