The average styrene-acrylonitrile export price stood at $1,706 per ton in 2022, waning by -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 36%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,223 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($2,225 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($682 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malawi (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average styrene-acrylonitrile import price stood at $1,201 per ton in 2022, declining by -17.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 16%. The import price peaked at $2,055 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,393 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($413 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, shipments abroad of styrene-acrylonitrile (san) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers (in primary forms) decreased by -15.8% to 245 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 48%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 291 tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, styrene-acrylonitrile exports contracted sharply to $418K in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $540K, and then fell significantly in the following year.
