Synthetic Rubber Price in India (CIF) - 2022
In 2021, the average synthetic rubber import price amounted to $1,801 per ton, growing by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 25%. The import price peaked at $3,206 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,169 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,605 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Synthetic Rubber Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average synthetic rubber export price amounted to $1,317 per ton, falling by -6.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 18% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,985 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($2,246 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($746 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Synthetic Rubber Imports in India
In 2022, approx. 561K tons of synthetic rubber were imported into India; declining by -19.7% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 699K tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, synthetic rubber imports contracted rapidly to $991M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.3B, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Synthetic Rubber Exports in India
Synthetic rubber exports from India expanded sharply to 90K tons in 2022, increasing by 8.7% compared with the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 97K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, synthetic rubber exports contracted to $120M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $134M, and then fell in the following year.
