Spices; Saffron Price in Cameroon (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; saffron import price stood at $123,462 per ton in 2022, rising by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 117%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $161,900 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($269,000 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($6,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average spices; saffron export price amounted to $3,750 per ton, falling by -81.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 444% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $20,000 per ton, and then fell sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($44,333 per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland amounted to $459 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+34.7%).

Spices; saffron imports into Cameroon contracted sharply to 13 kg in 2022, waning by -31.6% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 19 kg, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, spices; saffron imports reduced rapidly to $1.6K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable contraction.
