Which Country Imports the Most Ginger in the World?

Global ginger imports amounted to 516 thousand tonnes in 2015, picking up by +3.1% against the previous year level. Overall, the global ginger imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +38% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global ginger imports attained its maximum volume of 973 thousand tonnes in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, the total ginger imports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global ginger imports amounted to $724 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global ginger imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +7.1%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Ginger Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the ginger imports in 2015 were Pakistan (89 thousand tonnes), the United States (73 thousand tonnes), Japan (61 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 43% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of ginger imports among the main importing countries was attained by the Netherlands (+6.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Japan (118 million USD), the United States (113 million USD) and the Netherlands (72 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 42% of total imports.

the Netherlands (+11.7% per year) had the highest growth rates of ginger imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
