Sorghum Price in the UK (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $367 per ton, with a decrease of -47.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 36%. The import price peaked at $704 per ton in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($867 per ton), while the price for France ($312 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sorghum Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average sorghum export price amounted to $2,665 per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sorghum export price increased by +107.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $2,940 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($32,552 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($675 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sorghum Imports in the UK

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sorghum decreased by -45.3% to 13K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 9.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 26K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sorghum imports fell markedly to $4.8M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year.
