Sorghum Price in Italy (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $363 per ton, declining by -6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 49%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $386 per ton, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($588 per ton), while the price for Russia ($293 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sorghum Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023

The average sorghum export price stood at $715 per ton in July 2023, falling by -26.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 113% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $3,774 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($9,817 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($450 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Sorghum Imports in Italy

Sorghum imports into Italy surged to 60K tons in 2022, picking up by 52% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline.

In value terms, sorghum imports soared to $22M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.

Sorghum exports from Italy skyrocketed to 2K tons in 2022, increasing by 91% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
