Sorghum Price in Greece (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $611 per ton, rising by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,166 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,671 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($364 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+22.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sorghum Price in Greece (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average sorghum export price amounted to $1,866 per ton, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,515 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($6,820 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($1,449 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Sorghum Imports in Greece

Sorghum imports into Greece shrank to 823 tons in 2022, dropping by -11.4% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 929 tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, sorghum imports reduced slightly to $503K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $524K, and then declined slightly in the following year.
