Silk Yarn Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average silk yarn export price stood at $51,415 per ton in 2022, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($195,484 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($26,045 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Silk Yarn Price in China (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average silk yarn import price amounted to $42,240 per ton, with a decrease of -4.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, silk yarn import price increased by +20.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $45,627 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($53,669 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($10,625 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+33.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Silk Yarn Exports in China

In 2022, exports of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste from China skyrocketed to 3.1K tons, increasing by 18% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20%.

In value terms, silk yarn exports soared to $160M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste, when their volume decreased by -17.3% to 68 tons. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 82 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, silk yarn imports dropped dramatically to $2.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.6M, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
