Semiconductor Thyristor Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

The average semiconductor thyristor import price stood at $4.6 per unit in 2022, reducing by -34.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 85%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $19 per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Hong Kong SAR ($4.8 per unit) and Japan ($4.7 per unit), while the price for China ($4.7 per unit) and Hungary ($4.7 per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+170.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average semiconductor thyristor export price stood at $3.5 per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -11.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 51%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $19 per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Semiconductor Thyristor Imports in South Africa

For the fourth consecutive year, South Africa recorded growth in supplies from abroad of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs, which increased by 87% to 380K units in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, semiconductor thyristor imports skyrocketed to $1.8M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $2.2M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
