Price for Wool, Not Carded or Combed in China (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average import price for wool, not carded or combed amounted to $7,410 per ton, surging by 5.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 16% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7,982 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Lesotho ($8,902 per ton), while the price for Mongolia ($850 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average export price for wool, not carded or combed amounted to $5,264 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,417 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($11,144 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,436 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Wool, Not Carded or Combed in China
Wool, not carded or combed imports into China shrank slightly to 283K tons in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021.
