Price for Wine; Still, in Containers Holding More than 2 Litres in China (CIF) - 2023

In December 2023, the average import price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $615 per thousand litres, surging by 5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 44% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1.2 per litre in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1.8 per litre), while the price for Chile ($542 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $1.4 per litre, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 245%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4.2 per litre. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($3 per litre), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($0.7 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+22.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses into China fell to 133M litres, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 0.7%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at 142M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses reached $149M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $158M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year.
