In 2022, the average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $366 per ton, growing by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $375 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($653 per ton), while the price for Italy ($272 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $340 per ton in October 2023, jumping by 45% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $406 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($425 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($171 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses into Slovenia skyrocketed to 150K tons in 2022, growing by 30% against the previous year. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses surged to $55M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 192K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses surged to $49M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
