In September 2023, the average import price for vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,166 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,430 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($33,908 per ton), while the price for Suriname stood at $1,135 per ton.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
