The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $6,534 per ton in October 2023, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $8,099 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($7,031 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($4,296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $21,839 per ton in October 2023, jumping by 227% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a strong increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($35,160 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iran ($6,955 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
