The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $6,216 per ton in December 2023, declining by -1.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for steel, stainless increased by +39.5% against October 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2023 an increase of 42% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,314 per ton, and then shrank in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($20,817 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($3,232 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $4,316 per ton, shrinking by -10.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 35%. The export price peaked at $4,828 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($12,936 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($1,964 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Steel, Stainless; Angles, Shapes and Sections in Poland
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of steel, stainless decreased by -6.2% to 6.3K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 6.7K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, imports of steel, stainless expanded modestly to $24M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 27%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of steel, stainless contracted modestly to $17M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $17M, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
