The average import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground stood at $1,821 per ton in January 2024, reducing by -4.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from January 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground increased by +54.1% against November 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2023 an increase of 61% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,906 per ton, and then declined slightly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($3,249 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($120 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,580 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground, when their volume decreased by -36.3% to 2.7K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 126%.

In value terms, imports of spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground contracted markedly to $3.1M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent increase.
