In January 2024, the average import price for spices; cinnamon (cinnamomum zeylanicum blume), neither crushed nor ground amounted to $3,691 per ton, which is down by -7.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,940 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($6,278 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($3,507 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($6,492 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($3,407 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
