Price for Pulp; Cotton Linters Pulp in Brazil (CIF) - 2023

The average pulp; cotton linters pulp import price stood at $1,953 per ton in August 2023, declining by -5.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,562 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,354 per ton), while the price for China ($1,770 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average pulp; cotton linters pulp export price amounted to $3,105 per ton, falling by -8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 178% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,425 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($8,371 per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($987 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+118.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
