Price for Preserved and Frozen Vegetable in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved and frozen vegetable import price amounted to $1,440 per ton, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 3.9% month-to-month. The import price peaked in September 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Egypt ($1,530 per ton) and Belgium ($1,427 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,328 per ton) and Canada ($1,426 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Preserved and Frozen Vegetable in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average preserved and frozen vegetable export price stood at $1,727 per ton in September 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,762 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,306 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,193 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Preserved and Frozen Vegetable in the United States

In 2022, approx. 1.4M tons of vegetables (preserved, frozen) were imported into the United States; picking up by 8.9% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, preserved and frozen vegetable imports expanded significantly to $1.8B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three-year period.
