Price for Polystyrene in Primary Forms in Poland (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average polystyrene in primary forms import price amounted to $1,826 per ton, declining by -3.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,455 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($2,003 per ton) and Italy ($1,921 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($1,578 per ton) and South Korea ($1,707 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Polystyrene in Primary Forms in Poland (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average polystyrene in primary forms export price amounted to $1,406 per ton, falling by -8.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,754 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Finland ($1,867 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($299 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Polystyrene in Primary Forms in Poland
In 2022, polystyrene in primary forms imports into Poland rose modestly to 76K tons, picking up by 4.8% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.
In value terms, polystyrene in primary forms imports soared to $161M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a buoyant increase. Exports of Polystyrene in Primary Forms in Poland
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of polystyrene in primary forms (excluding expansible polystyrene), when their volume decreased by -27.6% to 40K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year.
In value terms, polystyrene in primary forms exports contracted dramatically to $63M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 77%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $75M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
