The average import price for polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary formses stood at $1,130 per ton in December 2023, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 4.1% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,276 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,916 per ton), while the price for Russia ($756 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,454 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($1,289 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($336 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, overseas purchases of polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary formses decreased by -5.8% to 2.4M tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend.
