In 2022, the average marble granules and powder import price amounted to $526 per ton, increasing by 106% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $749 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($874 per ton), while the price for Greece ($152 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average marble granules and powder export price amounted to $165 per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 135%. The export price peaked at $251 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($165 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda amounted to $156 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+13.8%).

Imports of Marble Granules and Powder in Kenya

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of granules, chippings and powder of marble, when their volume decreased by -56.2% to 92 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted mild growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 81% against the previous year.

In value terms, marble granules and powder imports dropped to $49K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year.
