The average import price for lubricating preparations not for the treatment of materials stood at $8,217 per ton in September 2023, declining by -10.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 63% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $12,366 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($13,076 per ton), while the price for Greece ($2,732 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average export price for lubricating preparations not for the treatment of materials amounted to $7,347 per ton, surging by 6.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price posted a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 251% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $20,013 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($14,429 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($4,503 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of lubricating preparations not for the treatment of materials decreased by -0.2% to 34K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 34K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, imports of lubricating preparations not for the treatment of materials expanded slightly to $171M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
