Price for Lamb and Sheep Meat in Brazil (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average lamb and sheep meat import price amounted to $7,128 per ton, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 24% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $8,036 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($10,538 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($3,339 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average lamb and sheep meat export price amounted to $11,724 per ton, growing by 39% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded buoyant growth. The export price peaked at $43,917 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($16,030 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($7,880 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Marshall Islands (+63.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Lamb and Sheep Meat in Brazil

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of lamb and sheep meat increased by 48% to 4.2K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn.

In value terms, lamb and sheep meat imports soared to $32M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 63 tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, lamb and sheep meat exports surged to $664K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
