In August 2023, the average export price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $708 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 5.7% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $851 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to North Macedonia ($849 per ton) and Australia ($721 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($695 per ton) and Norway ($708 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In August 2023, the average import price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $687 per ton, dropping by -4.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 5.7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $796 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($742 per ton), while the price for Moldova ($596 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Iron or Non-Alloy Steel; Bars and Rods, Hot-Rolled, in Irregularly Wound Coils in Poland
For the fourth year in a row, Poland recorded growth in overseas shipments of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses, which increased by 17% to 589K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses skyrocketed to $628M in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
