Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Italy (FOB) - 2022
The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $1,715 per ton in 2022, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,861 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,443 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,261 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average grapes; fresh or dried import price amounted to $1,957 per ton, shrinking by -4.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 16% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,620 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,546 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,659 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Italy
In 2022, overseas shipments of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -3.5% to 458K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 476K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried exports shrank to $785M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 19%.
