The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 317%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dried grapes exports plummeted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of dried grapes exports from Italy, together accounting for 47% of total exports. The Netherlands, Turkey, France, Poland, the UK, Ghana, Slovakia, Switzerland, Slovenia and Malta lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +110.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for dried grapes exports from Italy, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Belgium totaled +13.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-2.2% per year) and Slovakia (+14.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average dried grapes export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 103% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2021, approx. X tons of dried grapes were imported into Italy; with an increase of 21% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dried grapes imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of dried grapes to Italy, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, dried grapes imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tons), more than tenfold. Australia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey totaled +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+4.5% per year) and Australia (+15.6% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried grapes to Italy, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 4.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+14.7% per year) and Chile (-3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average dried grapes import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
