Price for Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Japan (CIF) - 2023
The average glass fibre chopped strand import price stood at $1,170 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -1.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,302 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,639 per ton), while the price for China ($973 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Price for Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average glass fibre chopped strand export price stood at $2,171 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -6.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 10% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,493 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,815 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,476 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Glass Fibre Chopped Strand in Japan
In 2022, the amount of glass fibre chopped strands imported into Japan shrank notably to 62K tons, falling by -16.5% against the year before. In general, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 74K tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
