Price for Glass Fibre and Article in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average glass fibre and article export price amounted to $1,564 per ton, rising by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,202 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($890 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average glass fibre and article import price stood at $2,420 per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,829 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($8,905 per ton), while the price for China ($1,565 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Glass Fibre and Article in Malaysia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of glass fibres and glass fibre articles, when their volume decreased by -18.5% to 357K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 438K tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibre and article exports rose slightly to $558M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
